Sydney Harbour
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 17 - 22 APRIL 2017

Hello and Welcome,

Meetings for This Week:

Tuesday Group - Tuesday 18th Apr - 9:30 am - 12 noon

After opening the SIG with Q&A, there are usually presentations covering various computer topics. However, no specific talks have been scheduled this time.

Maybe you could present a short talk on a pet computer problem or solution.

Family History - Tuesday 18th Apr - 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

No specific Genealogy topic has been announced, but topics arising from last month's SIG will probably be discussed. They consisted of two volumes covering 10,000 records of deaths and burials from 1916 - 1945 and 1946 - 1967 at Wood Coffill Ltd in Katoomba.

Around 50% of the burials were transferred to Sydney, elsewhere in NSW and Australia and a few overseas.

Terry says he still has an incomplete list of members as Outlook appears not to keep addresses of Groups like Windows 7 did.

Meetings Next Week:

Main Meeting - Tuesday 25th Apr - 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm - NO MEETING (ANZAC DAY)
Digital Photography - Friday 28th Apr - 9:30 am - 12 noon

ASCCA News:

Below is a repeat of the email sent previously about the free Apple Workshops in Sydney.

At present, there are 7 clubs that have nominated a person to attend. That makes 8 spaces left.

There may still be time for any club that has not sent anyone to do so, if they do it quickly. However, to ensure that all spaces are filled, from today we will be allowing clubs to nominate two people in total for the workshops.

It means that, if your club has one person already booked in, they can nominate another. If your club has none so far, they can nominate two. Order of acceptance will be based on the time that the request reaches the office@ascca.org.au email.

Workshops by Apple for ASCCA Trainers

Apple has recently been talking to us about the features of iPad and iPhone for seniors, especially the accessibility and voice interaction features and how they could make a difference in people's lives.

The staff at Apple's Accessibility & Lifelong Learning group have offered to run three connected workshops in Sydney especially for ASCCA trainers who teach (or want to teach) iPhone or iPad. They are free and are in May and June 2017. Participants would bring their iPhone or iPad, but there is also an offer to loan devices.

As these are practical sessions, there are only 15 spaces for club trainers available. Clubs can only nominate one person for the course in the first round. If we are then left with spaces, we will contact the clubs who have responded to ask if they have an additional interested trainer.

Please respond soon to take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to learn from the Apple staff.
