Sydney Harbour
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 29 MAY - 3 JUNE 2017

Hello and Welcome,

Opinion:

[Ed:] Members attending the Pitt Street meetings in the last couple of months will have noticed the incredible noise coming from a development at the corner of Bathurst and Pitt Streets.

Jack-hammers are demolishing dozens of concrete walls and floors in the Greenland Centre, the former Sydney Water Board site which will become Sydney's tallest residential address at 70 storeys, due to open in 2019.

See the interesting June 2016 article in the Urban Developer magazine: "Penthouse Sells In Excess Of $11m".

Greenland Development

The matter came to a head on the night of this month's Main meeting — the jack-hammering was still going on after 5 pm, in the dark!

Even though I was walking along Pitt Street from the Park Street end, I had to press several fingers over my ears to cover the noise before finally taking refuge in our building at 280 Pitt Street.

Other pedestrians were trying to ignore the noise, much like World War I & II artillery-men, with misguided bravado. As a result, those men all suffered profound deafness.

Please let me know when the jack-hammering stops.

Maybe we can then use the Pitt Street premises again (unless we find an alternative in the meantime).
