July Special Guest Presenters - HappyTel and Synology

Hi everyone, Alex here.

To start, I'll be at the July main meeting from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, and Synology is confirmed as our presenter at 2pm to 2.40pm.

Synology is a data storage company whose mission is "to manage and protect the world's data".

The company creates NAS or "network attached storage" devices that allow you to create a personal cloud in your own home, to back up documents, emails, photos and other data, and access that information securely online from anywhere you happen to be with an Internet connection.

Synology has products from the entry-level for the home through to solutions for businesses of all sizes, and the company is also generously donating a DiskStation DS218j for the main raffle - a twin-bay NAS storage device valued at $250.

You can see what this device looks like here:

One of the members wanted to know what a NAS was and how it worked, and with Synology one of the top NAS makers out there, they're a perfect candidate to come and tell us all about how a NAS drive works, the software interface you use to get access to all of your data and much more.

Daniel Esguerra, Sales Manager for Multimedia Technology Australia, one of the local distributors of Synology's products and services, will be our guest presenter.

I'm also seeing if a representative from HappyTel can be our 1pm presenter. HappyTel are a smartphone and tablet store with 56 stores across Australia, and 8 in Sydney alone.

They sell accessories, screen protectors for phones and tablets, and just signed a deal to become an authorised service centre for Huawei's smartphones in Australia.

One of their city-based stores is in the QVB, on the same level as the Town Hall train station, with over 60,000 people a day as foot traffic, and hopefully they'll be presenting during our 1pm slot.

I'll also be there, showing you some interesting new technologies as per usual, and if HappyTel can't make it for whatever reason, I can easily extend my presentation to show you a lot of great stuff!

So... see you on Tuesday the 16th of July from 12.30pm!

Also we have Acer coming in August, Laser coming in September and Nokia in October, with companies like Google, Telstra, Symantec and others due to present this year, too - just sorting out the specific dates for those, but Acer, Laser and Nokia are locked in.

Cheers

Alex
